Kiroku

Kiroku is a stationery shop and creative studio based in Germany with a design aesthetic that leans both east and west, having an obvious tie to both Japanese and German design traditions. They have an ever-widening array of stock, and my initial attraction to the shop was based on seeing their polyethylene terephthalate (PET) tapes.

Whilst the tapes look lovely, they do not work well as tapes. The artwork on the tapes do not share a single orientation, instead better lending themselves to being used as cut-out stickers. That’s all well and good, except it’s a lot of work, and the results in my journals and letters felt far more repetitive and redundant than using a repeating pattern washi tape would have seemed. Overall, they were a disappointing experience.

All the same, Kiroku’s store contains numerous other items and in the future I would like to try some of their standard washi tapes, stickers, and other journaling supplies. I recommend a look in the shop, but I don’t recommend the PET tapes.
